Introduction

This Guide demonstrates how to create a Container Guide for the sole purpose of housing several discrete guides together as prerequisite guides.

Reminder

Any changes made to a guide, with the exception of tags and the default language, create a new draft of the guide.

  1. Click on your username on the right side of the site header.
    • Click on your username on the right side of the site header.

    • Select Create a Page from the drop-down menu.

    • Alternatively, if you are already on the category page you want the container guide housed in, click on the Create a Guide button at the top of the page.

  2. Click on the Guide icon in the Start a New Page options. To organize your guide, enter the name of the guide's designated category. As you type, if the category already exists, it will appear in a drop-down list below the text box. Select your category from the list.

    • If the category does not already exist, a new category page will be created.

    • Click on the Next button.

  3. Enter a title for your new guide in the Guide Title field.

    • To explain briefly what the guide demonstrates, add a summary in the Search Summary field.

    • If you would like to add other information at this time, such as an introduction or flags, click Show More.

    • Review the Parts of a Guide Page to better understand the various elements that make up a guide.

    • When finished adding information, click on the Save button.

  4. Select the Details Tab. Start typing the guide titles in the Prerequisite Guides Field. Guides housed in the same category will populate as you fill out the field.
    • Select the Details Tab.

    • If the guide you are adding is housed in a different category, click Search all guides to locate the guide.

  5. To populate the tools listed in the discrete prerequisite guides, click the Import missing tools button. To populate the parts listed in the discrete prerequisite guides, click the Import missing parts (will sum quantities) button. To populate the parts listed in the discrete prerequisite guides, click the Import missing parts (will sum quantities) button.

  6. Scroll to the bottom of the detail edits screen. Click on the Save button.

    • The page will refresh and display a banner at the top confirming changes were successfully saved.

  7. The Guide Details will indicate the number of prerequisite guides as Sections. This example has 4 prerequisites and no steps created in the Container Guide.

    • Click the drop-down arrow to view the prerequisite guides titles.

Is there a limit to the amount or prerequisite guides such a container guide can have?
